Tasted by grafstrb. -- tasted a single pour non-blind at the tasting room --
Intense blackberry color of great depth. Awesome lifted aromatics of blackberry and cinnamon stick; moderately intense on the Nose. Full bodied. Quite sweet, but it has a healthy dose of drying tannin and embedded acidity to bring it into balance; definite orange juice note; blackberry and plum concentrate; the fruit, while concentrated, seems pure/fresh (not roasted). I think this is a really nice wine. - Tasted 5/13/2012.

Tasted by Henman. Confected dark fruity aromas on the nose. Medium bodied, sweet, delivering vibrant dark fruit with a little confected hint. Overall nicely balanced. A very nice LBV porto with good QPR. (88 pts.) - Tasted 5/17/2012.

Tasted by grafstrb. -- tasted a single pour non-blind at the winery over approx. 5 minutes --
Medium dark tan-amber color. Moderately expressive Nose; a bit fruity. Smooth, sweet palate with flavors of golden raisins, apricots, and dates; dry pecans and a hint of epoxy (or V/A?) on the finish, which is of medium length and moderate intensity; fruitier than the 40 yr.; 20% alc.. Would have really liked this, but for the epoxy note. - Tasted 5/12/2012.

Tasted by grafstrb. -- tasted a couple pours blind at the winery, over approx 45 minutes -
Very rich, complex, and smooth. Sinfully good for a 10 yr. Tawny. The best 10 yr. Tawny we tasted over the course of our three days in Portugal. Although the color reveals this as a 10 yr., in a black glass I could be convinced this is a very nice 20 yr. or 30 yr.. - Tasted 5/11/2012.

Tasted by atubbs. Clearly drinking this before its time, it was tight and tannic; decanted for about four hours before enjoying it with chocolate cake. Intensity of flavor wasn't quite where it should have been, but the structure to develop is still there. Needs many years before revisiting. (87 pts.) - Tasted 5/13/2012.
Date: Sun, 13 May 2012 00:00:00 PST
Tasted by Zweder. Well, Burmester is not a Port vintage wine of which I will buy a lot in the future because it simply disappoints a bit too often and there is too much bottle variance. Anyway this bottle is quite nice. Dark fruits in the bouquet as well as the taste. Currants add just slightly nutty flavors on the palate. Good sweetness, acidity and soft tannin. Completely ready now. (90 pts.) - Tasted 5/5/2012.
Date: Sat, 5 May 2012 00:00:00 PST
Tasted by WetRock. Great balance again on this. Light oxidative notes among red fruits. Bright acids and nothing overly sweet or weighty. It does show fatter and sweeter on night two but this is one of the best Tawny's I have had more than once. Very good. - Tasted 5/2/2012.

Tasted by jc-mmb. non blind. certainly port, but simple in nature. average nose - doesn't really jump like a top flight port. mouth feel is simple and straightforward. some nice fruit and raisin but a little pedestrian. finish is short and simple. nothing off putting, just simple. (88 pts.) - Tasted 4/27/2012.

Tasted by pacificoast. Sweet, lush and fruity typical of Grahams, but I think it's a bit simple and not terribly complex. Not much on the nose, and initial palate experience is of excessive sugar, only later followed by the fruit to back it up. Rather simple on the palate as well. Definitely lacking in elegance and finesse. May become more interesting with age and mellowing of the tannins, but I doubt it will become a great Grahams. Drink from 2018 on. (89 pts.) - Tasted 4/16/2012.

Tasted by Nutty08. Great dark fruit with plenty of almond and nutty aromas. Still quite youthful but starting to open up some. Nice balance and concentration. 92-93 (92 pts.) - Tasted 4/14/2012.

Tasted by texaswinelover. I thought this wine was hot and almost somewhat thin. I hope it just needs time to finish evolving. Day 2 - so much better today. Nothing thin aout this wine. Tannins smoothed with bright deep fruit emerging. Noteworthy cedar, spicy character. Heat more restrained and integrated. Just delicious. +3 pts vs original note. (93 pts.) - Tasted 4/14/2012.
Date: Sat, 14 Apr 2012 00:00:00 PST
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach. Open, medium-sweet, baskets of cherries, well-integrated tannins, will mature well but does not have the structure or concentration of the 1997. (92 pts.) - Tasted 8/8/2009.

Tasted by Remony. On Easter Sunday, decanted six hours. Hard to know what to make of this. To my palate, a modern, designer wine; intended to be ready for drinking at a young age. Deep, limpid, intense, very sweet, rich and agreeable; alcoholic but the alcohol is well integrated, and the fruit fully masks the spirit. An abiding impression of chocolate and fruit drops -- as it happens, we had no chocolate after Easter lunch, but this would have married well with dark chocolate peppermints! I simply don't know whether it will make old bones, and if it does, what it will taste like after say 40 years. But it certainly will never resemble the great ports of the 25 post-war years in my view. Nice to have a case of this in the cellar, but to burgeon my dwindling stocks of 1963-1970, I shall snap up any cases of good port from the best years pre-1971 which may come on the market, if they are in good condition and have reasonable provenance. This LBV is better than many of the Vintage Ports that have crossed my path. Rich, tannic, complex, rich, vigorous, rich...

Tasted by avp. Chokeberry and blackberry nose with medicinal herbs, charcoal, wood and blue flowers.
Sweet and medium bodied well-structured palate with refreshing acidity and some tannic grip. Stewed dark berry fruit, dried herbs, slight florality and charcoal. Lengthy.
Darker character than with the 2005. Good rustic stuff. - Tasted 4/3/2012.

Tasted by Biggsy. Pale ruby red. Quite a bright nose, intense with lots of black fruits. A fresh, fruit-led style, sweet and flavoursome but lacking a touch of depth and complexity. The rather noticeable alcohol dominates the raisiny fruit on the finish. (84 pts.) - Tasted 3/24/2012.

Tasted by Jochems. I'm not a huge expert in vintage port, but this is the most concentrated and expressive young port that I've ever had.
Deep ruby/purple color, almost black at the core. An enticing nose with loads of blackcurrant, blueberry and some cherry and violets and hints of dried fruits. Following trough with a mouth coating full bodied feel, chewy-smooth tannins and loads of fruit. The finish is long and seems to be lingering for ever.
Though very young, this wine is also very attractive right now. It has the structure to develop for decades to come, but if you ever wanted to taste a great young port, drink it now (or otherwise over the next few decades...).
I give it 95pts for now because it is so primary and hard to judge where it is heading, but there is significant upside potential here. (95 pts.) - Tasted 3/23/2012.

Tasted by WillSka. Clear, deep amber with a clean, medium intensity nose of kafir lime zest, orange liqueur, and glazed caramel. Tasting shows a medium-plus body with low tannins and medium acidity, and a fine medium sweet port. Orange liqueur, cloves, kafir lime zest, black pepper, benedicitine, and bread crust are carried by a long finish. This rates as a very good 20-year tawny port. - Tasted 3/14/2012.

Tasted by jkoenen. Of course this is extremely young and primary but, oh so delicious now. Smooth, round and supple, not a single ripple or annoying edge, soft as a duck down pillow. Needs time to develop complexity, depth and spice. Will probably close down hard soon, so we can all witness its glorious resurrection in 15 years time. 18/20 (92 pts.) - Tasted 7/9/2010.

Tasted by jkoenen. Wow... this is sheer nobility. So restrained and oozing with class. Gorgeous. Very tight, almost closed at the moment. But I've got one foot in the door and pick up distant hints of rich, lusciuos, macerated, black fruit, toasted oak, chocolate covered cherries and there's a great savoury deer stew on the stove... But after a while the door is locked. Patience is needed but man, this is going to be something in 10 years time... 18++/20 (93 pts.) - Tasted 7/9/2010.

Tasted by jkoenen. Very compact, dark and ominous. Good spice, rum bonbons, incense, not too sweet. Black cherries, forest fruit, asphalt, roasted spices and mocca. Fantastic wine which, after a double decant a few hours before the tasting, slowly moves into a wonderful position. Balanced and soft, not very alcoholic. Upside potential. Open next bottle in 5 years. 18.5/20 (94 pts.) - Tasted 7/9/2010.

Tasted by Nuncestbibendum. Unctuous, super rich, and spicy-dark, dark fruit with hints of wood, clove, and cinnamon. Fascinating tannic profile, with great freshness and acidity. Tasted by The13thGryphon. Nose is plum brandy and dates, with notes of must and eucalyptus. Flavors are very similar, but with the addition of black raspberries, and notes of honey and almond instead of anything musty. Luscious mouth feel. This is a very tasty Port. Not normally a big fan of Ruby Port, but this one is quite enjoyable, even if it is young. (89 pts.) - Tasted 3/1/2012.

Tasted by gelliott. Color: Very dark, but not opaque. More red that purple... a very dark ruby color.
Nose: A bit spirity, lots of dark red fruits. Possibly some dates. Also possibly some very faint smoke.
Palate: Thin in the mouth, but tasty. Rich grape-like flavor with some dark and very ripe red raspberries. The tannins only seem adequate for a 2003, while the acidity is good.
Finish: Good length, but not stellar. Flavors echo the palate. The finish is very clean with no stem or skin intruding.
While initially somewhat unimpressive, it ultimately won me over as a very drinkable but still reasonably complex VP. If this bottle is representative I don't think I'd keep them for too long as I get the feeling they won't age for 30-40 years, but they're well worth the $39 I paid. With more air time (this bottle was pop-n-pour) it might also gain some depth and earn another point. (91 pts.) - Tasted 2/29/2012.

Tasted by Blair Curtis. On opening this wine showed an incredible intense sweetness in the mouth - reminiscent of a top vintage of Grahams. But this wine is most certainly black fruited. The finish at first is very tannic - this wine has monsterous grip. And overalll thunderous impact. This bottle was opened with the intention of following its evolution over a full day or so. At about 2-4 hours open in the decanter, the tannins show more and the fruit comes down a notch, though it is still obviously strong. The tannins on this wine are never unpleasant, showing a fascinating dark cocoa bitterness. Between 6-8 hours open the wine starts to knit together and shows the best balance yet - the fruit and structure are now coming through in equilibrium. It now tastes more like a wine (rather than a beast...but in a good way!) and shows remarkable potential for aging very long and very gracefully. Spice nuances (especially star anise) begin to emerge. (About half the botlle was stored overnight in the covered decanter at about refrigerator temperature). On Day 2 I first sampled the wine 18 hours after the bottle was uncorked. The wine was still fresh and electric. A bit more closed now, and showing acid and tannin in spades. The fruit is still obviously quite primary and black. Over the next two hours - towards 20 hours open - this Port hits a nice drinking window. Licorice flavours come forth as well as some nice cherry cough drop. Oodles of potential here folks! 95+ (95 pts.) - Tasted 2/26/2012.

Tasted by jc-mmb. non blind. 375ml. end of evening. great scores on CT for this. as expected when i pulled from the cellar, this bottle is young. thought it would be so no surprise. but while there is some evidence of greatness here, this bottle suffered i think. slightly reticient on the nose even after opening a bit. hints of raisin, dark plum, black licorice and some scorched earth. the palate was better than the nose. still primary, but certainly showing dark fruits, earth, licorice and dark cocoa. best part is that it was not sickly sweet like some young ports are, and some other ports are. pretty good balance of tannins, fruit, earth and sweetness. finish was short, but suspect an indication of its younger age. would think it will get better. we'll see. Tasted by pacificoast. This Taylor is a knockout. It is among their best of the past two decades, surpassed only by the majestic 1992 and the sublime 1994. This one has fruit for days, a concentrated mass of highly aromatic, ripe and lush cherry and cassis on both the nose and palate. Its extreme youth results in the inevitable unresolved tannins giving it a bit of a harsh edge if drunk now, but this will without doubt fade dramatically in coming years. When it does, with perhaps 5-10 years of cellaring, this might even surpass the previously-mentioned two Taylor greats. It is possible the fruit will remain nearly as luscious and remarkable as it is now, and if that holds, this may become a 100-point wine. An utterly delightful wine, and a superb effort. Tasted by WineKnurd. Popped a bottle for a friend's housewarming party and really impressed. Damson plums, pluots, raisins, anise, and creme de cassis nose + palate; very fruit forward but clean. Silky smooth texture with enough structure to keep the heat from turning into nyquil. Finish is clean and not syrupy. About halfway through the bottle, oxidized notes of bitter pecan shells came out along with hints of wild red berries, dates, and figs. Really enjoyed this port; accessible and drinking well now and will be nice to see how it ages. Thinking it might be tough to wait 5 years before I pop my next bottle.
Style & Quality- A. Only time will tell if it can achieve an A+ evaluation but the potential for more complexity is there. Still thinking about how clean the fruit flavors were.
Value- A. $55/pop isn't a steal but you will never find a vintage port from a declared year discounted. Very reasonable price considering I paid $55 for a 1994 Cockburn 1994 which is another general Port declaration vintage.
Overall- A. (95 pts.) - Tasted 2/12/2012.

Tasted by spartacus111. This vintage port is quite delicious. Very little sediment upon opening. The nose is chocolate and red fruit. I decanted the wine and it needed only an hour or so to open up. Chocolate and raspberry are the dominant flavors. More delicious than complex but I'll be buying this again. In my opinion it is probably close to its peak with maybe another five years to go before it's decline. (92 pts.) - Tasted 1/31/2012.

Tasted by DonalOB. Lighter in colour than the earlier ports, with a little bricking on the edge. Dow is a slightly drier style than the Graham's.
This felt more balanced to me with higher acid - it was more like drinking wine, if you know what I mean. This is probably still somewhat dumb and needed much longer in glass before it would shine. Of course, really it needs another ten years. Still, very enjoyable from a great port vintage. (95 pts.) - Tasted 10/24/2011.

Very ripe and jammy with exotic, resiny flavours like Eucalyptus. Also plums and other concentrated fruits. Not strong tannins but an alcoholic finish.Quite composed. Just shows that VPs can be drunk when very young before becoming dumb at around 10 years. (94 pts.) - Tasted 10/24/2011.

Tasted by grafstrb. -- tasted a couple glasses non-blind --
-- tasted from a bottle that had been open for a month or two, and stored in a dark, cool area --
-- bottled in 2010 --
NOSE: minty spicy dark red berries; hints of cherry licorice and beef jerky; maybe a faint hint of oxidation around the edges, but I could be tricking myself into detecting that b/c I'm aware of how long the bottle has been open; moderately expressive to expressive.
BODY: black violet-burgundy color of great depth; full bodied.
TASTE: sweet, but not overly so - hard to describe the flavor type - perhaps a sweet molasses candy; dark tobacco; concentrated fig; hint of cement-like mineral; embedded tannins provide some grip; short finish; flavors are strongest on the front and mid palates, and rather weak on the rear palate; the 20% alc. seemed to be pretty well-hidden, but for feeling it a bit on the gums, and noticing its effect upon standing up after finishing my first glass; I didn't taste this when I opened it (used it for cooking), so I can't comment on how it's tasting now compared to then, but this certainly does not come across as a wine that has oxidized. Gut impression score (as it drinks today): mid 80's - Tasted 1/26/2012.

Tasted by igaf. Shiny medium light amber colour. Very intense on the nose with apricots and some alcohol heat initially, then plums and candied oranges, slightly lifted. Full body, quite soft yet with increasing spiciness, which provides some freshness until getting too hot. The sweetness is much lower than the nose suggests. Very ripe apricots and almonds on the palate. Very hot finish, long, spicy aftertaste of apricot liqueur. One glass is enough. - Tasted 1/23/2012.

Tasted by Phredd. The color lives up to the name, as this wine is completely opaque black with just a little touch of ruby right at the rim. On the nose, there is a fair shot of alcohol, immediately followed by strong, sweet black licorice and black plum reduction. On the palate, the sweet attack of plum and blackberry sauce moves into a very present mid-palate of deliciously smooth tannin which moves smoothly into concentrated flavors of both red and black licorice. The alcohol is obvious but not overbearing, and while this remains sweet throughout, it is surprisingly well-balanced and extremely tasty, albeit a touch overly primary. The finish is quite long and gives way to vanilla with just a hint of caramel and toffee on the very end. I paid $24 after tax at a LWS in a state with high prices, and I wasn't disappointed. While it is designed to drink now, it has plenty of stuffing to last for a few years on your shelf if you can find it at the WS low of $14 and want to buy a case. This is a serious candidate for house Port where I live. I like this a lot. (90 pts.) - Tasted 1/23/2012.

Tasted by Greybeard. Stewed blackcurrant/bramble nose with a little green hernaceousness and maybe some rhubarb. A spicy attack with a strong fruity mid-palate and a long finish. Quite smooth tannins for what is a young wine, remarkably drinkable right now. 90-91pts.

Tasted by Nutty08. I really prefered this to the Taylor, despite the youth. Wonderful primary nose of dark fruits and caramel. No alcohol at all. Beautiful, densely concentrated palate, with gobs of dark frui--plum and currant-- but balanced with plenty of coarse tannins and an incredibly long finish. So young and primary, but the concentration, depth and balance were impressive. I'd drink more port if they were all like this. Love to see this in 30yrs. (94 pts.) - Tasted 1/20/2012.

Tasted by rocknroller. Light amber color. Drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. Alcohol, carmel and butterscotch, wood on the nose. The palate is not overtly sweet, flavorful, consistent with nose. Pleasant, but not in my wheelhouse after this evenings wines. (90 pts.) - Tasted 1/14/2012.

Tasted by Pfertitta. Tasted this wine with my friends, and boy was I impressed. I had two bottles. One to take notes on now and another to come back to in about 5-8 years to track the evolution in the bottle. To start the color of the wine was clear deep purple what one should expect to find in a quality vintage port. The aromas leapt from the glass sitting a good two inches above the rim. Very nice and powerful nose, Figs and rasins upfront, moving into dried cherries and licorice hints of ceder sneaking in and tying all of the aromas together. Typical sweetness of a vintage port, creamy full-body. medium round tannins. Powerful flavors of fig, rasins, and cherries up front the back of the wine rounded with licorice. Exceptional lingering finish. This is a very high quality to price ratio wine. I can't wait to come back to it in a few years and see how it has grown up! (91 pts.) - Tasted 1/14/2012.

Tasted by Loren Sonkin. This has lots of pieces parts but was way too young and hot for my tastes. It had been decanted for 6 hours and needed a lot more for me. Nice prunes and plums on the nose. A bit of coffee grounds. Lots of alcohol and heat. I would hold these for a while. (90 pts.) - Tasted 1/13/2012.

Tasted by geneswine. I drank a 750ml bottle one small glass a night for two weeks. It changed considerably over time. At first it seemed disjointed with a bit of sour fruit and oak. At that time I was not impressed, maybe a 90. This went away by day 3 or 4. By the end of the second week it was outstanding, a 96+. (95 pts.) - Tasted 1/12/2012.

Tasted by GalvezGuy. Opened and folowed over three weeks. Did not change much even with three weeks of air. Nice nose, caramel, figs, dates, dried cherries, rum-soaked raisin. On the palate, raisin, dates, fig, caramel. Shortish finish with high levels of spirit. For my money, I would rather drink an Aussie tawny like Trevor Jones, same quality at about 1/3/ the price. Tasted by TRS-Wine. bottle had a leaking cork back in 2000 when it was bought. i turned the bottle, and left it to age. the wine was pretty good hence the 88 points, but not what i was expecting from this wine. i think the cork issue caused pre-mature loss of fruit. i hope the many bottles i have still in woods are not leaking and will be better. Tasted by SevenDayMile. Decanted for an hour on night one. Left in the bottle overnight, notes from day two.
The wine is viscous; inky black at the core with a vivid purple rim. The aroma is powerful with dried cherries, blackberry jam, vanilla, and a robust floral note. The palate is bright with rich plum, black cherry, and raisin flavours; a coarse texture, and moderate grape tannins lead to a long and spicy finish.
This definitely shows the remarkable pairing of density and elegance that great wines accomplish. Spectacular now with some air and a really limitless future ahead. (97 pts.) - Tasted 1/5/2012.

Tasted by winelover1986. Trying to choose between stocking up on some more of this or one of the current 2009s, and decided to taste one before making the call. Started it Weds night, and will update if I remember with subsequent nights' notes.
Pop/pour at 53F. Dark reddish-purple color with magenta rim. On the viscous side with pronounced legs. Nose was reticent, showing some bitter dark cherry. With air, all it added was a touch of grapey spirit.
The palate was intense, but focused by the astringent tannins (not overwhelming tannins by any stretch, but pronounced). It was for some reason almost as vinous as port-like. The wine had a medium full body, and the palate showed aromatic rose petal, Concord grape, sweet plum, blackberry pie and some unsweetened cocoa on the finish.
Overall, considerably more accessible than would be expected of a 2007 VP without aeration, but not something I would choose for current drinking pleasure given the level of the tannins.
Thursday, 55F, after vacuvin overnight. Dry earthy nose, smooth, balanced, but simple -- like a nicer version of the faux VPs.
Friday, 55F, after vacuvin again. Moister earth on the nose and some dark berries but still closed. A little spirit. Tannin dominating the palate again. Blackberry pie is back, but made without much sugar. Slightly fuller bodied than night 1 and all in balance. I think this is going to be very nice when it matures. - Tasted 1/4/2012.

Tasted by docvin1107. Enjoyed over 3 days - just kept getting better and better. Good ripe fruit (cherries and plums) not candied or sweet in general, spicebox, dark tea, dark chocolate, violets, firm tannins and the alcohol quite present but became less prominent over the days. So much going on and I really appreciate the structure of this wine. My experience with port is fairly limited but in my book this a significant better buy in term of QPR than many other well known ports. (95 pts.) - Tasted 1/3/2012.

Tasted by beekeeper. Opened because of a leak. If the cork was defective, the wine was not. Decanted 6 hours. Bright translucent crimson with purplish tinge. The nose was fantastically complex - warm but not hot - with fresh plums, figs, fruit cake, flowers. Dark and red fruits abound. Fresh and balanced. Tannins are well coated and the wine is definitely approachable. Long, long finish. Made a ripe blue Stilton sing. Will be quite something with more years on. Wow! (97 pts.) - Tasted 12/31/2011.

Tasted by profiler54. Dark intense purple ruby color, Nose was highly complex the likes of last temperance bar in Britain. A whole lot was going on here crème soda, sarsaparilla, Turkish fig, anise, Dr Pepper, plums, and cherries. Palate offered much of the same with some earthy notes to add. Rich, full-bodied and finely balanced. This wine was Christmas in a glass. Still relatively youthful and has the structure to last 40 or more years. Drank over three nights. Tasted by wahootaster. Easygoing and approachable, but intense and serious as well; nose of stewed fruit and blueberry syrup, with just a hint of asian spices; lush, intense plum and blueberry flavors, with a bit of coffee, minerals, and a savory meaty note; perfect crunchy tannins for balance, and a long, long fruity finish, with a note of cardamom. A perfect finish to our Christmas dinner, and much enjoyed by all, especially the 20-something kids, who are quite fond of rather sweet high end imperial stouts and other dark barrel-aged craft beers. Tasted by Chrisinroch. From 375. Stored on side. Stuck Cork, had to dig it out. Decanted and filtered for sediment and cork bits. Big rich stone fruit and figgy flavors but such a dominant oak streak that it was not particularly enjoyable. This needs a ton of cellar time; has not budged since bottling in '05. Will revisit on day 2 but don't pull the pin on this one yet. Lots of potential, but such a baby now. - Tasted 12/26/2011.

Tasted by chatters. As this was a half bottle I applied the standard rule of thumb that it will have aged twice as fast as a normal bottle. This port was wonderful. Sour plums, almost umeboshi, and cherries, herby/leafy greeness - but not unripe - and chocolaty sweetness. I may have to pick some more up. - Tasted 12/25/2011.

Tasted by Julius Squeezer. This beauty is just beginning to show its age. Faint brick color around the rim. Incredibly expressive nose of vanilla, raisins, exotic Indian spice, earth, and blackberry. The tannins are silky and well integrated at this point and highlight a luxurious mouth coating palate. Notes of blackberry, heat, cassis, and spice box are framed by a delicious massive acidic backbone. This should cruise for at least another thirty years. (97 pts.) - Tasted 12/25/2011.

Tasted by David_T. The nose has a strong alcoholic kick right off the bat, but that is followed by licorice, chocolate, espresso and black cherry aromas. The palate is also a bit hot up front but followed by pleasant notes of black cherry and cocoa. The mid-palate is mostly empty but it has a nice finish.
